In an unknown reason (probably, I specified wrong Opening Balance), the remainder on my bank account does not correspond to the corresponding remainder in KMyMoney.
I tried to do reconciliation and entered the bank’s amount in Reconciled Balance.
But the amount of the sum (“Balance:”) didn’t become equal to the amount in bank. What did I do wrongly?
First I applaud that half of your purchases are of “chocolate” ! (C’est si bon!)
Second, when I have this problem I go back to the most recent activity where the reconciled balances are correct. Are these visible 4 purchases the complete activity in the account? Or is there older activity not shown?
The Handbook has a fairly good explanation of transation states and the reconciliation process.
You cannot remove a previous reconciliation, but you can do a new reconciliation on the same date, and its values will replace the old one.
The “Starting Balance” in the reconciliation wizard is NOT the value from the previous reconciliation; it is the sum of all reconciled transactions prior to and including the previous reconciliation date. However, this value is only for your convenience, it is not actually used anywhere in the reconciliation process.
One additional point - you ask why “Cleared” transactions are not reflected in the balance. If you look at the bottom of the ledger, at the right is the “Balance” which is the running balance of the last transaction displayed in the ledger. To the left of that the “Cleared balance” is displayed. If you have no cleared transactions after the date of the reconciliation, then that should match the ending balance of the reconciliation. If all of this is not explained well enough in the Handbook, please make suggestions for how to improve it.
If yes, it may help to read in the (old) help file which exists in French: Kmymoney Pour Kmymoney Version 4.6 - DocsLib
The page 68 explains the cleared state of a transaction, § 10.9 Comprendre l’état « Compensé ».
