I want to help contribute, but I'm not sure where to start.

Hey everyone,

I wasn’t sure exactly what category to post this in, so I just picked help.

I’ve used Linux for about 2 years now, so I’m pretty new, but I really like tinkering around with it. Unfortunately, I haven’t had formal education in coding or software development, yet, so what I do know is extremely basic and mostly learned from youtube and chatgpt. I don’t know enough to help develop software or fix bugs or things like that, but I’d like to help any way I can. I’m not sure what I can do though. I’ve never helped projects like KDE or other FOSS before, but it’s something I’d like to know how to do. where can I start? how can I learn to report bugs and suggest changes?
Any tips, suggestions, or resources would be appreciated!

BTW, I run KDE Neon on an old Mac Mini.

creating a dolphin service menu it not terribly difficult, and then you can publish it on the kde store for others to use.

No worries, this is not a requirement.

KDE participated several times in Google’s Code-In program (sadly discontinued) which specifically encouraged highschool level persons to start contributing to FOSS projects.

There are also applications, especially in games and edu sub projects, which have been started by people with no formal software background.

For example parents who needed something for their children, teachers who wanted a teaching aid, etc.

As @skyfishgoo said there are also non-programming options for becoming a KDE contributor
