If your notifications look kind of stupid in Plasma 6.3.4, it’s my fault

This is for everyone upgrading to Plasma 6.3.4, which was released yesterday. I suspect that some of you will notice something slightly wrong with notifications; the top padding is off, causing text to look not vertically centered most of the time.

Question is, how are you going to prevent this kind of issues in the future? When we make mistakes, we need to learn from them and try not to repeat these mistakes in the future.

I think this is the kind of issue that, being so small, you can’t really prevent because you may easily miss it when testing.

So the next best option is being quickly to fix.

I’m not familiar with the QA process here. If there is some kind of automated QA check or not. If you think about it, this kind of little bugs then take time to report, handle, resolve and push a fix. The time could be spend on development instead.

Humans can detect errors in ways that automation can’t.

Automation is to warrant that major errors don’t take place, humans are for the tiny imperfections.

The question is that every software is different, so what to check by a person can’t reliably be standardized.

You rather want to have in place a strategy that allows to quickly fix the tiny imperfections.

This issue couldn’t have been caught by a machine; it’s a case where the layout looks a bit odd to humans attuned to good layout design. There is nothing for a machine to notice as an error here.
