Inconsistent 3-4 finger gestures between touchscreen and touchpad

I’m posting this here just in case there truly is a reason for the inconsistency, I have already filed a bug report for this issue here.

The differences are as follows:

Touchpad:
3 AND 4 fingers left gesture: move to left virtual desktop (if present)
3 AND 4 fingers right gesture: move to right virtual desktop (if present)
3 finger up gesture: move to above virtual desktop (if present)
3 finger down gesture: move to below virtual desktop (if present)
4 finger up gesture: show overview/cycle forward (default view, overview, grid view)
4 finger down gesture: show grid view/cycle backward (default view, overview, grid view)

Touchscreen:
3 finger left gesture: move to left virtual desktop (if present)
3 finger right gesture: move to right virtual desktop (if present)
3 finger up gesture: show overview/cycle forward (default view, overview, grid view)
3 finger down gesture: show grid view/cycle backward (default view, overview, grid view)
4 finger gestures: not implemented (!)

I definitely think this is an oversight, and not intended functionality.
Can anyone correct me on that, or provide more insight on why this might exist as it currently does?

Hi - I don’t have personal experience on this one so I’d have to defer to others. Just for general awareness on the topic, though - there is a ton of work that developers want to do around touch interaction with KDE Plasma, enough to be working on an application for grant money to fund it: KDE Plasma Gestures (#5) · Issues · Teams / KDE e.V. Financial Working Group / Grant Applications · GitLab

(Individual issues still absolutely make sense to file and track, just an FYI since the topic came up)

Thanks for the input, I hadn’t seen the grant application.

Though yes, I have seen immense numbers of issues open, reddit questions/complaints, forum posts etc regarding somewhat subpar touch experiences (including this and this issue), so I’m not surprised that it’s something worthy of a grant request.

One day I hope plasma has touch capabilities rivaling those that Apple has on their computers/macbooks, this is just one step in the right direction!
