Switching to X11 solved this, but as I read that X11 will no longer be supported in future versions I have to ask, does this also appear in the later versions?
Anyway, for some reason switching to XFCE (have used it for a while on MX Linux, so I kind of dislike the Debian ‘implementation’, where the loud beep is on and muting my speaker did nothing) or GNOME solved it but I’m wanting to try the Plasma desktop.
(finally have a fast laptop, so might as well get the nice graphics)
One of the programs that could not change said input method (WeChat), the other one is WPS Office, both of which I have to use because I’m studying in China.
(decided to record proof, but not sure if I can even upload it here, I did find out that if I go from Plasma X11 to Plasma Wayland, the candidate box appears in those programs, but immediately closes down after each word, then going back to X11, now it no longer works , so I restarted everything is back to normal in X11)
Ah, okay I’ll keep that in mind when I need to change distros (cause I did accidentally break something, a few times during my distro hopping last year, and I would rather do it when there is nothing urgent going on)
I liked that MX Linux 23 was mostly ready to go, I just needed to add a few shortcuts, and I didn’t have to disable the beep (as it seems to be disabled by default) . Which was quite surprising when I tried it on Debian (didn’t help I was interning at the time, and a loud beep in the mostly quite office made me sweat nervously.
Though I stopped using MX Linux 25 cause for some reason the graphics drivers had errors (sometimes the screens would become random pixels, stop working, and I have to force my laptop off), the intermittent graphical issues that persisted even after updating the drivers, and all system components, so I thought, might as well try a different distro.
the drivers might not be all that different, but the trick it to make sure you are using the right one and not just the one with the highest number, a rookie mistake.
distros based on ubuntu make this easy… others leave it up to you to do your research.
