Insert Password

I will start by admitting that I have been drinking. Why? Because I am frustrated. Have been. For some time now. We are talking about a week, so apologies in advance.

A short explanation is that I have now tried a few KDE builds on Garuda (KDE Dragonized); Bazzite KDE; Drauger KDE; Nobara KDE, I forget the rest). and it’s always an unnecessary compromise.
Background: I am relatively new to Linux (6months off Windows) and as a “normal” user (when defined as an average joe, above standard computer knowledge) I simply cannot find something that isn’t in some way either broken, or “learn to code and you [strikethrough] will [/strikethrough] … might… be ok”.

My latest frustration is with Bazzite which [Insert Password] needs you to [Insert Password] insert the [Insert Password] password any time you want to [Insert Wifi Password] do anything. Anything at [Insert Password] all.

I’m not talking about any [Insert Password] esoteric stuff, just stuff like having the second HDD [Insert Password] mount automatically so steam [Insert Wifi Password] would accept it as the place to save whatever games I [Insert Password] download, so I can reinstall the operating system new if needed [Insert Password] as I try new linux builds.

I am talking about a [Insert Password][Insert Password] home desktop computer that [Insert Password]does not need that level of security, [Insert Password]man.

I mean every time I start the pc and want to connect to the internet I have to [Insert Password]insert the password, meaning Steam goes tits-up and I have to restart [Insert Password] Steam. Sometimes (AS A JOKE) it disables the internet (on Garuda) after the password is entered. [Insert Wifi Password]

On my hardware, Garuda is working ok, bar the password mafia and Bazzite seems to be better (I kinda like the first impressions and performance is definitely boosted) but I cannot [Insert Password]get my stuff to work because of the [Insert Password][Insert Password][Insert Password][Insert Password][Insert Password][Insert Password]paranoia of KDE systems blocking every single thing with a password.

So I drink.

Sorry about the rant. I’ve been struggling for a week or more. No. I’ve been struggling for 6 months and I REALLY want to leave Windows behind for good.

I’ll make the poor choice and respond, lol.

This has zero to do with KDE and Plasma.

Garuda = Arch = a lot more DIY involved, by design.
Bazzite = Atomic/“immutable” = more “locked down” in a sense

Maybe it’s your systems’ different set of defaults from other distros, or your personal setup. KDE has the Kwallet password manager that normally stores a lot of this for you, particularly WiFi passwords. Heck, the network connection settings provide options to store the passwords.

The vast majority of us don’t have this issue, is all I’m saying. Even those of us who dig into the guts of their systems.

Passwords: helping keep people from being pwned since forever.

Some operations simply require root or admin access, and the OS/distro gets to make the call as to whether to indeed require the user to authenticate (annoying, but technically more secure, especially on a multi-user system), or instead declare it safe enough that the request succeeds automatically without the user being required to authenticate. So I would recommend contacting the Bazzite folks about this.

I’ve edited your post to remove all the language. I understand you are frustrated, but the use of this kind of language isn’t welcome in KDE.
