Is the ‘Close Tab’ option in the shortcut the same as ‘Close Session’? I don’t see any specific ‘Close Tab’ option in Konsole (v. 26.08.0). I vaguely remember setting up the ‘Close Tab’ shortcut to Ctrl + W. Is a session the same as a tab in the current Konsole terminology? And should I assign Ctrl + W to ‘Close Session’ if I want to close the current tab?
I don’t have a “close tab” option - but there is a “CLONE tab” which you may be reading incorrectly?
From the Konsole handbook:
File → Close Session (Ctrl+Shift+W)
Closes the current session
File → Close Window (Ctrl+Shift+Q)
Quits Konsole
Note
Konsole will display a confirmation dialog if there is more than one session open or if there are certain programs running in any session. These dialogs can be disabled by clicking on the Do not ask again checkbox.
I don’t want the ‘Clone Tab’ function. I want a shortcut to close the current tab. I have now configured Ctrl + W to ‘Close Session’, and it seems to work.
I realise that, but I wonder if you confused “clone tab” and “close tab”? You asked
But there is no “close tab” listed in keyboard shortcuts.
Yay!
In any shell, Ctrl + D will quit the shell. So if you have nothing running in that shell, that should work and effectively close the tab in Konsole (and any other terminal emulator).
I wanted to say I remember setting it in some earlier versions of KDE Plasma or Konsole, some years ago. But Ctrl + W and Ctrl + D work, so no issues now.
