Is it possible to set the preview resolution to 1080p?

I am editing 4k video. I have proxy clips set to generate at 1080p. 1:1 preview resolution is super laggy and 720p, while very smooth, looks awful.

Is there no 1080p preview resolution option?

If you’re using 1080p proxies (and actually have them enabled), then 1:1 should be “rendering the preview at 1080p” …

But as noted here: Project monitor zoom level indicator - what actually gets displayed can be subject to multiple rescalings.

Do you get better results if you directly generate 720p proxies?

If you import the 1080p proxies into a separate test project as the main clips without proxies, and apply similar effects do you have basically the same result as you’re reporting here? 1080p is a pretty large ‘proxy’ clip with pretty high demands on bandwidth.

Kind of the whole point of proxies is you’re trading visual quality for speed (and often at that point of editing working in a small monitor window, not full screen, where the full resolution would be wasted anyway). So you use the proxies while you’re scrubbing around and arranging your cuts - and then might turn them off later in the process for things like colour grading, or fine work that doesn’t require real-time playback as much.

I would really love to have an easy option to temporarily disable them to check what something looks like at full resolution. Right now toggling them on or off is a bit more awkward than might be ideal.
