Is it possible to use a different screenshot tool under Plasma?

I thought I could just start using grim but it says compositor doesn't support the screen capture protocol.
This is addressed in several threads, esp. in combination with KDE, but there’s never a solution, not even a negative one. They all just fizzle out.*

So I thought I might phrase the question differently. Is it possible to use something else to capture the screen?

FWIW, Spectacle is too complex for me while at the same time missing at least on important feature (see my upcoming other thread about that, don’t pollute here).

TIA!

* I’m sure not literally ALL but 15 minutes of researches worth.

grim wants wlr-screencopy and kwin doesnt speak that, so yeah that ones dead on Plasma Wayland.

id try flameshot or ksnip through xdg-desktop-portal-kde. Print Screen still routes to Spectacle by default, so rebind the shortcut in System Settings → Shortcuts → Custom / Spectacle entry.

If u just need a file fast, spectacle -b -n -o ~/shot.png from a script is the least painful for me.

flameshot and ksnip both work under Plasma.

I have a problem with spectacle which I have now fixed with flameshot, which can dump raw PNG (their words not mine) to stdout:

flameshot gui -r | pngquant - -o \
~/Pictures/Screenshots/scrsh_$(date +%Y%m%d_%H%M%S).png
