I have KDE 6.3.4 installed and the taskbar clock set up with a custom time format:
ddd dd MMM yyyy (ex: Sun 06 Apr 2025)
That’s fine for the two regular timezones I use but I want the UTC zone to instead be in 24-hour format. It’s jarring to me to look at the UTC time and I see something like 4:45:01 PM I want to see 16:45:01 for example. I suspect the issue is that there’s only the one Custom code and you can’t have one format for timezones and another for UTC
As far as I know you can only choose one format, based on the “Region & Language” settings you select.
I used the custom formatting string so I’m overriding that. I suppose what you’re suggesting is that I could go to Regions & Language and use “C” which would make everything use 24 hour time and just give up having 12hour format for the normal time zones I have (US-Central and US-Eastern)
I don’t use anything custom
maybe that’s the reason it works here?
In the setting of the particular taskbar/widget clock you should be able to set it to 12 or 24 hour format.
The “custom” string only affects the Date part, not the time part. I would think it wouldn’t matter.
When you say “works here” you mean 24hour time everywhere, I wanted 12hour for civil time like my Eastern and Central time zone times but I want 24 hour just for UTC.
So the conclusion seems to be you can only have all 12 hour format or all 24 hour but not the mixture
That would probably not work on the same Taskbar clock but 2 separate clocks should be possible;
or date only once:
I’ve set everything to 24h format and I can still use my Customized Date format (ddd dd MMM yyyy (ex: Sun 06 Apr 2025)). I like seeing the short Date name like “Sun” and padded date (“06”)

If you think something could be improved usability wise, maybe report to the KDE bugtracker.
the date format you are using does not affect the time display.
the only control you have over the time display is choosing between 12 or 24 hour formats, or having it default to your regional settings.
in my region there are two options as well so i can chose between those in addition to the options in the clock settings, but it takes a logout for the change to take effect.
I never said it did, in fact I said the opposite
