Hi all,
I believe I’ve come across what appears to be a graphics driver bug, however, I could do with a second opinion as to whether this needs reporting as a KDE bug.
Whenever I change geometry using xrandr or kscreen-doctor, the screen will go black with only the cursor showing, on whichever monitor configuration I change to. And after about 10 - 20 seconds plasmashell will come back online and I’m given the notification:
“Kwin Window Manager: Desktop effects were restarted due to a graphics reset”
This is often accompanied by the Dr Konqi crash handler.
I’ve tested graphics drivers 555 and 560 and the crashing occurs there, but on 550 and below it doesn’t occur.
I’ve got a journal dump taken just before and during the crash, though I don’t seem to have any way of sharing that here as I can’t post links, the dump is too long to include in a post and I can’t upload a text file.
My system is as follows:
Arch Linux
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090
Session: X11
Kernel: Linux 6.10.5-arch1-1
KDE Ver: Plasma 6.1.4
I’ve posted this over at the nvidia forums, though I’ve received no responses or acknowledgements, I thought I’d check here as well just in case.
Here’s the thread:
*can’t post the link…
there’s a thread called: Bug: KDE X11 - Graphics reset / desktop crash when switching screens on Driver 555 (.58.02) - xrandr & kscreen-doctor
My system has probably been spamming the crash reporting system for the last 2 months since this would happen multiple times a day at one point.
Please let me know if there’s any info I could provide which might be of assistance.
Thanks for your time in reading this.
