Issues with Fullscreen apps

I think this will likely end up being a bug, but I’m not sure where as of yet. This started occurring after updating to Plasma 6.1.5, but I skipped several updates and not sure what version I started with. I’m mostly not sure where to start looking for errors.

It seems like most fullscreen items don’t work as expected. Once items go fullscreen, they will launch for a fraction of a second and show up as expected, and then become transparent and show whatever would typically be behind them, whether that be a browser window/the desktop/etc. This will be non-interactive and the process will have to be closed or minimized. Alt-tab will still show the window as expected, it even changes sporadically if whatever it was was expected to be in motion like it’s processing in the background somewhere, most forms of previewing the window work too. Audio on these items also works as expected.

This seems to affect most games that Steam tries to launch and affects attempting to fullscreen youtube in chromium. Also, this did affect VLC, but there was a checkbox within VLC simply labeled ‘fullscreen video output’ with no other details and turning this on seems to have resolved things for VLC. Finally, while fullscreen items didn’t work in chromium, they seem to work just fine in vivaldi.

Can anyone give me some ideas as to what I should be looking at for what specifically is even broken? I’m not even sure what logs I need to go through here. Individual program logs seem to mostly think everything is fine.

One key that I think makes this a difficult one is that I’m not using Nvidia, this is a pure AMD build.

Is this prehaps the issue you’re running into?

If so, a work-around is, that if you go to System Settings ↦ Display & Monitor ↦ select external monitor ↦ set Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) to never
