Sometimes when I send pictures from my desktop to my phone, the image is rotated along the way and I have to edit it to fix it.
It seems the problem is in your phone app:
Photos have a field to tell when they are portrait or landscape in exiv data. KDE software uses this to auto-rotate the images even-though technically their data isn’t.
I am guessing this occurs only for portraits.
