What log do I look at to find the reason for this?

Will anyone help???

Hey, so to start you can look at your system log and look around the time where the freeze happened. If it happened in your current boot, you can use this:

journalctl -b 0

or if you restarted e.g. once since, you can use

journalctl -b -1

Luckily, KDE is pretty verbose in the system log.

                                                                            ✔

Okay, these are just the first few lines of the boot. Now, navigate this file to the time where the freeze happened. You can see the time at the start of every line. In the journal, you can use the j and k keys to move down and up. You can use End to move all the way down or Home to move all the way up. The PageUp and PageDown keys also work.

If this is too much, install this app here. It has a GUI for the exact thing you’re looking at on the command line: Journald Browser - KDE Applications

Next, investigate the lines around the time where the freeze happened. Look for errors, warnings, messages which might indicate that your whole shell was waiting for something.

If you don’t know the exact time, I think you have to wait for the next time it happens and write it down then. Then go have a look at the logs right after.

What app?

I type freeze in to find it nothing I notice, can you receive the file? Oddm U had it on this sys for a while, no freeze. Until the reinstall, no cganges in hardware.

Well KDE wouldn’t write “freeze” in the log. Since you don’t know the culprit just yet, you have to investigate. For that, you need to write down the exact time the freeze happens. Then, you go into the logs and look for the time you wrote down. Look for messages/errors before/whilst/after the freeze time. This might give us an indication about why the freeze happens.

You sending the file to me doesn’t help since we still need the time to look for in the logs.

I moved to Solus, been fine so far. Not sure what is the cause in Manjaro.

I am getting that freeze 2-3 times a day. It lasts for around 5 secs and then all is back to normal. No Nvidia here. The good thing is it doesn’t lead to a crash. I will watch out for the time it happens next and report from the logs.

Same thing here, I suspect this is some specific issue with Intel HD Graphics 5500.
It has been going on for a long time, as if the problem dates back to Plasma 5.

The freeze happened again at 12:16 and here are the logs from KSystemLog. Those [UFW Block] lines appear every couple of minutes, so while it remains another mystery I will have to solve, they don’t seem to be relevant to the freeze that appears only 2-3 times a day. Also, I don’t use baloo – or so I thought.

The freeze happened again and comparing with the earlier log above, I can see a pattern with the ‘GPU HANG’ line:
