KDE Neon constant crash reporting since update to 6.6.0

Since the update to KDE Neon 6.6.0 I’m getting constant crash notifications; the problem is there’s nothing to indicate a crash, there’s no glitching or application restarting, Kwin is not restarting - nothing at all.

Is anyone else experiencing this? I’m going through the logs and I can’t make head or tail of the issue.

Any help would be appreciated. Steam installed as the official .deb directly from Valve’s site, which hasn’t given me grief since Steam was released under Linux as a platform.

Yes, same here. I think it’s likely a new way that Plasma notifies for crashes, i.e. presumably these programs were all crashing before, but now we get notifications every time. For me, I usually get the notification when I’m quitting an application (e.g. LyX, Libreoffice) and it supposedly “crashes” as part of the quit. I’m yet to actually encounter an actual crash notification that is relevant.

In the meantime, I’ve just disabled all of the error reporting with systemctl --user mask drkonqi-coredump-launcher.socket.

Thanks for your feedback, however I seem to have fixed the problem, thing is - I’m not too sure what I did.

I did the update last night to 6.6.1 and the crash reports were worse than ever, all iBus reports and Steam reports. I was looking at the reports under Crashed process viewer and noticed the interactive debugger, I ran it, but due to the fact I’m not a coder it didn’t really help.

One thing I did notice was mention of Proton-CachyOS, which I installed roughly at the same time I installed the update to KDE Neon 6.6.0, so I removed Proton-CachyOS as a matter of course.

I also went into Settings > Keyboard > Virtual Keyboard and set virtual keyboard to none (previously it was set to Wayland).

Lastly, I noticed that the bulk of the crash reporting seemed to be happening just after boot, once Steam had loaded - once again as a matter of course I removed Steam from Autostart thinking that perhaps Steam was loading before specific libraries were loading resulting in issues.

Since doing the above, something’s changed. I no longer get the constant crash notifications, even with Steam running as a result of being launched manually after the system has booted. I believe the crash reports were actually reporting valid issues that weren’t there before, I just don’t know what the exact issue was - all I know is that now the problem is 100% resolved.

I have Steam crashing here KDE neon since upgrading to 6.6.1, but not if I launch it from the terminal.

OK, ignore that. I had enabled my AMD iGPU, and I forgot that my Intel Arc B580 doesn’t like that, and/or Steam’s menu entry was set to to run with a dedicated GPU. In any case, I think it is my mainboard being silly.

I’m also seeing repeated reports of ibus-ui-gtk3 crashing after boot, then it seems to stop (be rate limited?) by itself. I don’t have Steam or Proton-CachyOS installed.
