KDE neon Rebased on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS

I first did the update to plasma 6.2 and then the update to 24.04
The update took around 1 hour to complete.
After reboot, login to plasma(x11) gives me a loop between the system POST screen and login screen.
If I choose to login to plasma(wayland) I can enter to the desktop screen but the system is extremely slow.
A procedure uses all the CPU cores up to 99%

Any idea of how to resolve this issue and avoid format and installing feom zero?

Tried upgrading and there were a bunch of broken dependencies. Not sure how to proceed. Can anyone help?

Could you tell me how to connect with SSH?

I would prefer to install a PPA than a driver from a run file though.

Eh… I’m gonna hold off for now after seeing this. My system works fine. I don’t feel like messing with it. Gonna wait until the kinks with this upgrade get ironed out some.

As they say, patience is a virtue.

Finally got it installed freshly new from the ISO.
But the install was far to be smooth (far from it).

For this installation, I used a new SSD and each time the installation process started to write on this SSD, it told me that it could not write the boot partition (300MB) and stopped hardly the process.

I tried everything: full erase, create new, side by side or previously formatting the SSD in fat32 or NTFS. Each time the SSD was erased (partitioning bug?) and quit process and forcing me to reformat the SSD from Windows (a shame).
After a while and many attempts (various and varied) and not having understood what had changed I managed to install KDE Neon 6.2 and boot on the SSD.

For now, it’s a disappointment… Discovery can’t find any of the system apps I used (for example: Disk for Gnome, Stacer and others).

For now, for me, KDE 6.2 is far from being usable on a daily basis with still too many bugs. I will wait for the next ISO releases to see.

When upgrading from 22.04 to 24.04 it first gives an error

Cannot upgrade system with unmerged /usr

Please install the usrmerge package to fix this, and then try the
upgrade again.

I didn’t install the driver from a run file, my instructions outlined how to install the driver from another machine logged into my main PC using the Launchpad PPA.

To SSH into your faulting PC, open terminal on another computer (I used my Raspberry Pi) and use SSH in the following format:

ssh user@ip address

With ‘user’ being the user name assigned to your account on your faulting PC, and ‘ip address’ being the ip address of the faulting machine.

Once logged into the faulting machine, add the launchpad Nvidia PPA as outlined in my instructions and install the relevant Nvidia driver.

You never install the Nvidia driver using Nvidia’s .run script.

OK. The solution in my case was quite simple:
Nvidia drivers were removed and all graphic calculations were processed by the CPUs. My old Xeon CPUs are not made for that :stuck_out_tongue:
Running
“sudo ubuntu-drivers install nvidia:550”
And then “sudo reboot”
the problem was solved and now I am running Weyland better than before!

me too I can’t install it, I did that but still showing to me the same message.

I tried to upgrade but this is the message I get, I went to discover and rescanned for updates and installed all the updates, I went back again and tried the upgrade and nothing, it won’t let me update.

did you try rebooting after the updates were installed?

Hi, cannot upgrade, after the updater downloads some packages i get this error:

Please assist in how to resolve this?

Finally got it to work from a fresh install (from live ISO). 3 day of hard testings and many methods used. The install process was really hard.

Now, Discover find almost everything I look for but many utilities are/were obviously incompatible with the new 24.04 LTS and Plasma 6.2 and others got finally updated to the last version.

On the hardware support, I had no (found) problems (yet) with my various PCs :

  • AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS with iGPU 780m connected to a 5.1 AC3/DD/DTS multi-channel amplifier and a 55" HDMI TV. Acting as Jellyfin media server.
  • Lenovo AMD Ryzen 5 Laptop with Vega iGPU
  • Intel tablets PCs (auto-rotate, pen, and Maliit keyboard working fine).
  • Laptops based on Intel I3 & I5 (iGPU Intel Graphics 500 and 600 series)

So far, so good hardware wise… for me.

Until now, I regret the previous KDE themes which are, for the most of them, incompatible now (until new releases will be available).
Of course, most of the programs I use (office, multimedia, music) need to be upgraded by their respective devs.

Buen dia. soy usuario en kde. me aparece actualizacion pero me aparece error utf8 y un sin fin mas de errores. es decir, no puedo actualzar. saludos

I have that log :

My system is all messed up!

same problem…any news? (KDE neon 6.2 installed)

We have a lot of messages of upgrade failure and upgrade success (for example, this thread).

I tested upgrade on two laptops: thinkpad x230 and thinkpad t14. On both, I was able to update plasma, but the system wasn’t rebased to the 24.04.
