KDE Plasma 6.6, Convertible 2-in-1 laptop, screen rotation, touch mode not starting

I am using NixOS with the following things:

  • KDE Plasma, including the newly required qtsensors package installed
  • iio-sensor-proxy runs as a systemd system service and recognizes the hinge sensor

On the same laptop, in the past the touch mode worked normally

  • flipping the hinge would activate touch mode
  • items are enlarged
  • the touch keyboard would show up on press
  • most importantly: the physical keyboard inputs are ignored

I am failing to get all these things working. The screen rotation works, and monitor-sensor shows iio and the used sensor, and prints the display hinge settings correctly too.

But the “automatically enable touch mode” does not work, while “always on” works.
