My environment is Fedora 40, Plasma 6.2.1 with latest updates.
I have two network printers on my home LAN.
Whenever I am running a KDE application and type Ctrl-P to print, there is a three second delay before the printer dialogue window appears.
With non-KDE applications there is no delay.
For example, I open a PDF with okular - delay. Open file with evince - no delay.
I open an image with gwenview - delay. Open with Eye of Gnome - no delay.
More KDE apps like kig, kmplot, kate - delay.
Lots of non-KDE apps like Thunderbird, Firefox, LibreOffice - no delay.
This behaviour is totally reproducible and consistent.
I don’t remember when I first noticed this, but possibly quite some months ago. I have an older machine running Fedora 38 and Plasma 5.27.11, and that doesn’t have the same issue.
Only other difference I can think of is that the Fedora 38 system runs Xorg and the Fedora 40 system runs Xwayland.
Any ideas? Not a huge problem, but just doesn’t seem quite right.
Thanks in advance – Peter
