I opened KDEnlive and it suggested I update to the newest version, so I downloaded it. I mounted the dmg and dragged it on, replacing the existing version. After launching, verifying, and approving it to run it would just crash everytime. I tried resetting the config after starting again and it still would crash. I went in and deleting all of the files on the system containing “kdenlive” (except projects) and reinstalling but no luck. I tried downloading the earlier version offered on the Downloads page (23.08.5), deleting everything again and installing that version but it would crash the same as the newest version. I eventually dowloaded a version from VideoHelp (24.08.3), deleted everything once again and that worked without crashing. I don’t actually need any help at this point but felt that I should report my experience. I have the crashreporter report but I’m not seeing an option to attach it in this interface. I’ll post this and hopefully there will be one in the case itself.
It appears there isn’t a way to attach the report. It’s 179kbs which I suspect is too large to paste into a comment
This is the best place to post that: Bug List
Me too. Did you post it in the Bug List? It would be great if you could put a link here to the specific bug report.
As for me, the issue seems to have been introduced in v24.12.2, because downloading v24.12.1 works just fine. However, that version isn’t listed in the archives yet for some reason… But downloading it is trivial. Just copy the official download link and change the URL part that says 24.12.2 to 24.12.1 and it will download just fine. It’s always safer to download from the official site, of course.
For reasons that aren’t entirely known to me, those aren’t in the ‘attic’ because they are still the ‘stable’ release major version - and you can find all of those here:
(@Eugen_Mohr this question seems to come up semi-regularly, should there be a link next to the ‘archives’ button on the download page?)
The archive/attic button is on the very bottom of the download page. In the archive/attic are only two releases before the actual release. So, 24.08 and 24.12 are not in the attic. It starts with 24.05 and older.
Hello and welcome to the Forum
I test the versions before uploading. Interestingly on my Mac Pro OS 13.7.3 Kdenlive 24.12.2 crashed, but on another Mac with OS 13.x not. So, we uploaded the 24.12.2.
I checked my crash-log again and it could have been something to do with the Breeze icons we just fixed. Unfortunately, Kdenlive 24.12.2 is not build with this fix so far.
Right, but unless I’m missing something there is no link for people to be able to find older point releases of 24.12 if they need them (other than doing some url surgery and exploring of their own)?
Should we have a link to that like the archive button? If we don’t it just becomes (or rather, stays) a FAQ here.
I strongly support this.
There’s an “archive/attic” for two releases before the current release, but there is no visible easy-access to the most recent two releases. The download page should have a link access to the “pre-archive/pre-attic”.
I was lucky my URL surgery worked, others are more likely to give up.
Beside the attic link we could add this link for the actual and the previous release.
Then you can choose the release and the OS and inside the folder the version you like to download.
Yes, that’s what I was thinking.
I added a Pre-Archive
button on the download page
Amazing, you’re a legend! Thank you!
