Hmm, looks more like a problem with the VST plugin ValhallaRoom_x64.dll to me. Kdenlive is tripping there. Can you disable that by temporarily move the ValhallaDSP folder to a different location or putting it into a ZIP file?
That’s interesting. Why is Kdenlive checking if there are VST plugins on the computer?
At startup, MLT (Kdenlive’s video engine) scans for all available effects through its various modules. The jackrack module has limited support for vst plugins, which explains why the vst plugins are parsed. There is a blacklist.txt file in C:\Program Files\kdenlive\share\mlt\jackrack.
You can try editing it with a text editor and add a new line with the offending plugin:
ValhallaRoom_x64.dll
To see if it still crashes at startup. Feedback would be appreciated.
My first suggestion is to make sure the latest version of the VST plugin is installed.
An interesting question would be: did you actually intend to use any VST effects on your video audio tracks or where you just stymied by Kdenlive checking all your VST folders every time it loads?
There may even be other VSTs that Kdenlive does not like because we do not know if Valhalla was the first or last VST it checked - assuming there are more than one on the computer.
I would also suggest installing a different editor like Shotcut and see if that has any VST issues on startup.
@Tenmusound I think this is a good advise from @infomus:
If you can test for us that would be great
- update all VST plugins
- Test if Kdenlive still crashes
- If yes, try with Shotcut standalone as it uses MLT as well ( Shotcut - Download )
- Let is know if Shotcut doesn’t crash
Hi all,
Thanks for waiting.
I have moved the ValhallaDSP folder to a different location. I put into a zip file.
I launched Kdenlive, but it still crash.
Regarding Valhalla DSP, I did not intend to use it in Kdenlive. I use Valhalla plugins mostly in Reaper and my audio workflow.
I have installed Shotcut. I have launched it. It works pretty well
Mmh. That is strange. There is another user with the same crash on Windows 10: Kdenlive 26.04.1 released - Kdenlive - #13 by Eugen_Mohr . Could it be a compiler issue?
Kernelbase.dll is not a plugin, it is a core component of Windows. It is not something that gets installed with an app or device.
If your Kdenlive installation is, apparently, not compatible with your Windows 10 installation and your Windows 10 installation is working well apart from Kdenlive then, maybe, just uninstall Kdenlive and move on.
Strange because Kdenlive worked before this update
I think this has all to do with the VST plugin search when Kdenlive is starting up and maybe in combination with Kdenlive update to QT version 6.10 in Kdenlive version 26.04.0.
For testing: in latest daily build the VST plugin search is switched off. I can give it a try to see if the crash is still there.
are you talking about the 26.04.1 ?
Yes, 26.04.0 onwards
