Just having a quick look. You may remember my previous post about an error message when generating the transition previews. Your conclusion was that it was happening because I didn’t have Python installed, and you were going to look at pre-building the previews.

I’m pleased to report that they are all present and correct in this version, however I still get the “Failed to generate transition previews” error message when switching between list and icon views, even though they are all in fact present.

Apart from that, so far, looks excellent, and I thank all the developers for their continued work.

I received the same error message; I’m using Windows 11 and Kdenlive 26.04.0.

@GaryB and @xicopires Thank you for the feedback. Now the transition previews are pre-build and inside the Kdenlve.exe. Yes, Kdenlive still checks if there are user Luma effects and tries to start Python to convert them into previews. Maybe we should check if Python is installed and if not, we should tell the user that Lumas created by the user cannot have a preview.

So I installed the new version of Kdenlive, 26.04, by installer. When I tried to render my videos there, it stopped rendering and crashed. However, the previous release, 25.12.3 (which I installed by installer before the new release and standalone for this post), rendered completely and without problems.

I’m using Windows 10.

The rotoscoping effect isn’t working.
Thank you very much for your work.

It doesn’t launch on Windows 10. (The 25.12.3 launches normally.)

Sorry,
I’m talking about version 26.0 in Debian Testing. It doesn’t work in Debian Testing with version 25.12.3 either.

I just checked 26.04 Flatpak on Pop!_OS and rotoscoping works

Please follow these steps: Windows Issues — Kdenlive Manual 25.12 documentation

I’ve tried it, and it didn’t work. The portable version doesn’t launch either.

I also tried deleting the kdenlive folder in appdata, etc. It didn’t work.

25.12.3 launches normally.

I just downloaded the 26.04.0 Kdenlive standalone version and started it on my Win10 machine.

Open the task manager (Ctrl+Sift+Esc) and go to tab Details. Is there a Kdenlive instance still running? If yes, select it with the right mouse and choose Kill Process Structure (or similar). Then start Kdenlive again and watch if Kdenlive appears on that tab.

Just FYI, I’m running the latest version on Windows 10 (Version 10.0.19045.7184) and no problems with it starting up and running.

No, there’s no Kdenlive instance running in the task manager.

Also every time I try to restart it, the splash screen says “Kdenlive crashed on last start.” (And again proceeds to close without launching.)

Is there anything else I can check?

Follow the Windows troubleshooting recommendations in the official documentation.

I tried everything in the documentation and it doesn’t launch. (25.12.3 launches normally.)

Is there any way to generate and send a crash log so that the devs can look into it?

Can you try: https://docs.kdenlive.org/en/troubleshooting/windows_issues.html#cannot-open-projects-made-with-previous-version-timeline-snaps-back-cannot-import-clip

If Kdenlive still crashes while starting open 25.12.3 and follow this step: https://docs.kdenlive.org/en/troubleshooting/windows_issues.html#title-tool-display-real-background-not-working-in-directx-backend

BTW: Do you have updated your graphic card driver to the latest version?

Yes, I tried

  • deleting / renaming kdenliverc file
  • resetting configuration in 25.12.3

26.04.0 still doesn’t launch. (25.12.3 launches normally.)

My graphic card is pretty old. It’s a GTX 1060, and the driver version is 582.28 (the latest compatible driver before NVIDIA dropped the support for Pascal architecture).

Mmh. Is the firewall or virus detector blocking the start?

Not sure, but I don’t think so?

I don’t have any third-party antivirus software installed.

I also tried to add the kdenlive.exe to the allowed apps list in the Windows Firewall setting, and it didn’t do anything.
