I am using Linux Mint 21.3 on a MSI MS-7823 motherboard, 32 GB RAM, Intel Core i7-4770 and a NVIDIA GF116 [GeForce GTX 550 Ti] GPU.
I have been using Kdenlive for a couple years with Linux Mint. On a recent project I noticed I could not add titles I was not getting any error screen on start up. For a test I loaded an older project and where the titles should be in the project it says “Invalid” on the screen. I did a bunch of Googling I could not find any recent posts of anyone having this problem.
So I uninstalled Kdenlive, I did an apt remove kdenlive then I also did a purge of kdenlive through the terminal as sudo. I then went and found other files concerning kdenlive and deleted them too. Then I rebooted and reinstalled through the teminal again with apt install.
When the new install launches it is asking for kdenlivetitle and Glaxnimate. I tried to do a apt install kdenlivetitle, I get an error that apt can’t find kdenlivetitle in the repositories. The splash screen shows Kdenlive is using MLT 7.32.0. and is missing kdenlivetitle and Glaxnimate, when I click “OK” it just closes. Glaxnimate is already installed and opens without issue. Glaxnmate is version 0.5.4. I apt remove kndenlive again. Then I open Software Manager and install the flatpak version after removing the apt install version. Software Manager says it will install version 26.04.1 then once the install is done Kdenlive launches but then hangs the system with no errors. I can move the mouse around but everything else locks up forcing a cold boot. I have installed and uninstalled both versions multiple times. I have been Googling and coming up with nothing helpful.
As I have been doing some digging I have found out about the AppImage version. I launch version kdenlive-26.04.1-x86_64.AppImage it mostly hangs the system like the flatpac version did but it will open one in 5 times. So I download kdenlive-22.12.3-x86_64.AppImage (older version) and it launches and runs but it the old interface. I also tried kdenlive-25.12.3-x86_64.AppImage and it also just hangs the computer.
The real kicker is I have a 2nd desktop PC that I use as a failsafe, it backs up all my video files on an 8TB RAID 10 volume and also runs Linux Mint 21.3 as well as I have a laptop that I use for editing videos when on the road and it is doing the same thing, asking for kdenlivetitle and Glaxnimate on launch. I know both systems were working fine launching Kdenlive a couple months ago. I have not messed around with the other machines uninstalling and reinstalling I just left them alone. I have not opened Kdenlive on those machines in months, but I use them for other things frequently, then I go check my wife’s computer that is also running Linux Mint that I have not used for months but has had Kdenlive installed for over a year and when I launch Kdenlive the same error comes up. I am pretty confused how all the different machines are throwing the same error.
Has anyone else came across this problem, was there a bad update that borked the existing installs?
