I switched from Windows since 1 year ago to Linux with KDE, I’m very satisfied of KDE plasma, but something I missed it is direct way to uninstall an app with a right click on an application.
There is actually a button to Uninstall or Manage Add-ons, but this is no very user-friendly because it opens Discover, and this option is not always available (is available very often of Flatpak apps and KDE apps, only sometimes for others apps)
I know on Linux there is different format like Flatpak, Snap, Appimage, binaries (with apt, dnf, pacman, …), but maybe to start to add this button for flatpak apps without open discover it is a good start, for other format it can be added later
Why do you consider it not user-friendly to show the system’s software management UI for a software management task?
I guess it would be possible to delegate to Discover without it showing its window and just uninstall but with the UI it can offer options, e.g. keeping or deleting app config.
All of those other than AppImage can be handled by Discover.
Might be possible to add AppImage support even if that format is meant to be used stand-alone and not integrate with the system.
there is some debate over how easy it should be to uninstall an application (I can’t include link in my post) that you can read about in another thread, but i think the consensus is that such a feature as you suggest would be unwanted by most users.
I read this topic, this is a complex subject
We can keep dolphin option or other store to delete applications
But I think a direct way with a right click on an app + confirmation dialog (which it calls Discover backend) without to show the window it is a good way for users also, no ?
hmm… even with an are you sure? y/n dialog step in the flow, it could still be too easy to accidentally uninstall something when you reflexively just try to close out the dialog in an effort to get back to what you were doing before you mis-clicked.
imo, it’s better to manage the packages from a dedicated UI for the purpose… that way you get all the bells and whistles about what to do with config files, and you can leave a review before uninstalling it, after all user feedback is how we improve.
This is exactly how Uninstall button on Windows (modern apps) / Android works
I perfectly understand your point of view
For me, these 2 options are good, even if I prefer the first option because it is more faster way to uninstall an app.
And currently, the button “Uninstall or Manage Add-Ons…” for some apps doesn’t open the good page or it is not recognized by Discover (this it is an another issue)
