My last reconciliation resulted in a reconciled balance of $4,716.04. The next reconciliation has an automatically supplied (greyed-out) beginning balance of $3,216.04. I’m on a Linux system with Ubuntu 24.04.2, and am using KmyMoney 5.1.3. What’s up?
The starting balance displayed by the reconciliation wizard is the sum of all reconciled transactions on or before the date of the prior reconciliation. The most common way for it to not match the prior reconciliation amount is if any transactions prior to that date had their state changed. However, it is displayed as a read-only value, and does not actually play any role in the reconciliation process. As long as the ending balance and statement balance match after clearing all appropriate transactions, you are good.
However - the difference between the two amounts you list is $1500. Do you have any transaction for that amount? What is it’s status, and is there any chance it was changed since the last time you reconciled?
Well, I’ve gone back six months, and there is one $1,500 deposit that is unreconciled. I don’t believe I changed its status, but I can’t explain why it’s not reconciled, as the month in which it occurred is reconciled. There also are three additional correctly reconciled statements since. That, and a few other anomalies, suggest (surprise, surprise) it’s user error. So thanks for the prompt reply, and restoration of my confidence in KMymoney.
While I have you (and please point me to a discussion if there is one), is there any way to keep automatic numbers for withdrawals, but avoid them for other transactions? I prefer DEP in the “No.” box rather than a number.
Thanks again.
The issue of mismatching starting balance for reconciliation has been discussed more than once in the past, probably at least here (discuss) and in the retired forums, but there is no single place to look.
Likewise for various discussions regarding the number field, but I don’t believe there is any way to control its use, other than with consecutive numbers, such as a special term for withdrawals.
OK. I’ll search. Thanks again.
