KmyMoney issue with LinuxMint 22 (Ubuntu 24 based)

Hi,
I use Linux Mint 22 and KMyMoney 5.1.3
With Linux Mint 21.3, a “hint” (text date) is visible when typing a date.
But with Linux Mint 22 it doesn’t work…

Is there something special to do to activate it ?

How did you install KMyMoney in both cases? Just thinking to check that since, as far as I can tell, version 5.1.3 wouldn’t have been available from the official repositories of Linux Mint 21.3 or from Flathub?

(Thinking that perhaps something about how 5.1.3 was installed on Mint 21.3 would have also installed some component that enabled the feature you’re looking for)

Oh, you’re right !
In LM 21.3 (on my laptop) it is only 5.1.2 version…
I can’t install 5.1.2 on LM 22 (on my desktop PC) : dependencies errors…

So I have to found how to activate it in 5.1.3 !

On my 2 PC I use system package install

I had try to install 5.1.2 on Windows 11.
The “hint” appears.
Then uninstalling 5.1.2 and installing 5.1.3.
The hint doesn’t appear ! :cold_sweat:

So 5.1.3 had lost this feature. Very sad of it !

Is it possible to get it back on 5.1.4 ?

Looks like that tooltip (the “hint” you mentioned) was causing some issues as reported here:

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=446990

Which were then identified to be because the way that the tooltip was created used a feature of the underlying frameworks that’s since been deprecated and doesn’t work consistently/well anymore, and is unlikely to get better.

As a result, the best decision the KMyMoney developers were able to make at the time was to remove the tooltip so it didn’t cause major issues for many users:

You’re completely free to submit a bug request as a wishlist item, describing what you found helpful about that feature so the developers may be able to take it into consideration in the future - if you wish to do so, the link to the KDE Bugs site, pre-directed to adding a new KMyMoney bug, is here:

https://bugs.kde.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=kmymoney&format=guided

Hope that helps,

OK, Thank you for all your answers.

One question which just crosses my mind: the only additional information visible in the tooltip (hint) is the day of the week. Is it that, what you are interested in? If not, can you explain what made the tooltip so useful for you?

Yes that’s it the day of the week !
When you type a new line and you know it’s next Monday, it’s easier to see “Monday” than to know it is the 26.
