Kompare crashing with error "cvl2P8P#PZ32kY6h3Uoe" - should I file an issue?

Pretty new to Linux and never attempted to report an issue with KDE projects before, so please be gentle.

OK, I use Kompare pretty regularly, 1-2 times a week I’d say. Today I tried to start it from the launcher in Linux Mint and nothing happened. I then tried from the terminal and I see error:

Segmentation fault (core dumped)

I read the KDE WIKI on filing an issue and I’m at the stage where it suggests I discuss it here, so here I am doing that.

I’m not sure what to provide at this point and hoping someone will suggest what additional information may be needed. Although, I’m sure it’s safe to assume you’ll want to know the following:

  1. I’m running version 4:23.08.5-0ubuntu3 installed from the Mint package repo
  2. I’ve not performed any updates recently that I can think would cause this. To be honest, I update often but don’t recall updating since the last time I used Kompare
  3. I’ve restarted my machine

Below is my system information:

System:
Kernel: 6.8.0-101-generic arch: x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 13.3.0 clocksource: tsc
Desktop: Xfce v: 4.18.1 tk: Gtk v: 3.24.41 wm: xfwm4 v: 4.18.0 with: xfce4-panel
tools: light-locker vt: 7 dm: LightDM v: 1.30.0 Distro: Linux Mint 22.1 Xia
base: Ubuntu 24.04 noble

OK, please let me know what you think I should do next.

I’m going to delete this post because I just realized the title has the wrong error message but for some reason I can’t edit the title. Fantastic.
