Lets be honest a lot of us use krunner and pretty much all of us have some sort of pet peeve with it. So, today I’m sharing mine
I think krunner should be a bit more customizable than it currently is. Lets be real hardcoded sizes for the krunner window ? why ? just why ? we used to be able to use window rules to adjust the size but not anymore i guess since krunner has window rules greyed out
I do believe that krunner should be treated a with a little bit more independence, let us adjust font and icon sizes, lets us adjust the window placement more thoroughly heck even make it a true freefloating window instead of it being anchored to one of 2 points. what i want to say is that krunner is an application that has a crap ton of potential, i mean i use it all day everyday and cant work without it. But the limitations it has on its look and feel is just annoying. This is made even worse by the fact that kde itself is so flexible. So yeah, devs please let us customize krunner more
I don’t think it requires much extra bloat in terms of customisation though; it’s up to you to set your system font so that you can use it. I’m not sure why you’d keep it open long enough to need to move it around or anything else like that - just having it flexible (so it could open small, but expand to fit the width of text).
But right now, I’d just like to see it fixed such that it brings up relevant results when I start typing… because right now that’s all messed up.
I was wanting that mainly because when using krunner in the center view it has quite a bit of the bottom cut off, i personally dont like the top position so i use it in the center position. but as i said that has quite a bit of its options cut off. A recent update added scrolling but even then its a bit broken as at least 2-3 options are still offscreen. (sorry if my english is hard to read. its not my first language)
I didn’t see this - and I have it centred too… if I make a vague entry (hitting ‘a’ will do the job) then I can scroll, and I can see from the rounded edges that the bottom of krunner is on the edge of the screen, nothing is cut off.
for me this happens. this gets annoying when im searching for stuff like text files or similar things that can have a lot of options listed (yes i use krunner to launch directly into my files). there are at least 1-2 options cut here
The fact that it happens isn’t really an issue if it can’t be replicated on a fresh install, or fresh USER.
So many bugs can crop up in Plasma relating to settings (and it can be buggy, but often because of USER, not SYSTEM), then you can try to narrow it down by looking at themes, locale, languages, fonts, things like that.
Tried it out on a new user. it dosent appear there, I think something like font size might be the culprit as all the display settings are the same across both users
as you can see it still gets cut off even after copying every single font and display settings from the new user into the old one, I’m kinda confused as to what might be causing this issue specifically on the old user
I found out. And its kinda of ridiculous, It was the top panel.
The top panel was creating a margin for krunner so it appeared exactly 32px lower than the true center of the screen causing that cut off. why does runner adjust its margin according to the panels ?? thats kinda ridiculous. its not related to the panel in any way. auto hiding the panel seems to fix issue as seen here
Haha ok, so really that’s a bug with the panel… the only time I fix my panels is when I’m editing, otherwise they always get set to either autohide, or for my systray panel I set the ‘dodge windows’ setting… so that clutter gets put away and the rest only appears when I really want to see it or if something needs attention.
