Kwrite constantly gives faulty error messages about "ambiguous shortcuts"

Hello KDE Community,

I am using Kwrite as an editor on a non-KDE desktop (Mate on Debian stable), and I am getting strange error messages just today, like this:

“The key sequence ‘Ctrl+C’ is ambiguous. Use ‘Configure Keyboard Shortcuts’ from the ‘Settings’ menu to solve the ambiguity.
No action will be triggered.”

This goes for normal shortcuts like for cut, copy, past, search, replace etc. I have not changed the shortcuts at all. When I go to the setting panel and click “Defaults”, it does work for that tab in the editor, but when I switch tabs (say to paste what I copied into a search), the other tab will have the same problem, and if reset that the original tab won’t work again. Do you have any idea what this could come from?

With regards,

Hypatia of Sva.

well, yes.

mixing and matching DE (and DE specific tools) can lead to weirdness.

you would likely need to know where kwrite is getting it’s shortcuts info from and either re-direct it to null or provide your own version of what it is looking for.

i would suggest maybe try the flatpak or appimage instead of the native package intended for the plasma desktop.

Sadly true - with one of my favourite expressions, all software sucks… but some sucks less than others.

KDE Plasma has it’s hands full just keeping the complexity ticking along like the workings of a monstrously complicated automatic watch.

Mate is a different brand of watch and you’re mixing components - but KDE Apps can pull in a LOT of KDE Plasma runtimes and software…

That’s one of the forces which led me to install Plasma, it’s better to run a few Gnome apps on plasma than it is to install a single KDE app on Gnome (generally speaking).

But now we have Flatpak - it’s cleaner.
