Libreoffice Generic X in Task Manager and Missing Splash Screen

Hi all,

This is an annoying but seemingly only cosmetic issue with libreoffice on kde neon plasma. When I launch libreoffice a generic X appears in the task manager pane while libreoffice is starting. It disappears when the application opens and libreoffice task pane icons are normal. By reading an earlier thread elsewhere (https://forum.endeavouros.com/t/issue-with-libreoffice-on-plasma-wayland-session/37068/), it seems that I’m experiencing Wayland improperly loading the splash screen, which results in the generic X appearing in the task manager. This appears regardless of installing the kf5, gtk3, qt5, and/or breeze add-ons for libreoffice, or even downloading it as a .deb file from their website.

Right now the cosmetic solution (other than living with it) is to go to

sudo nano /etc/libreoffice/sofficerc

and change the Logo=1 to Logo=0.

Has a better solution been figured out? Is this a libreoffice not integrating with wayland problem from their end, or is this a plasma issue. For what it’s worth, I have a different computer running newest mint cinnamon and i have no issue (I’m guessing because it’s gtk3, which is weird then why running libreoffice on plasma with gtk3 doesn’t fix it).

It seeems to be a bug in Wayland, it shows splashscreens with titlebar for some apps, for example some Java apps (Swing/JavaFX) I daily use shows a titlebar and border around splashscreens, and what I think LibreOffice did to solve it is to run splashscreen on XWayland then start the main app in Wayland.

So that’s what I’m seeing then? The Generic X in the taskbar and lack of splash screen during the opening of the app is the start of it in XWayland (which neon plasma doesn’t really know what to do with?) and then it gets into Wayland with the main app and it’s good?

Is there a solution to be done from my end or just gotta wait for libreoffice to patch this?

I had to logout and go to X11 to see what you were talking about. I can honestly say LibreOffice opens so fast on my rig that I had never noticed the splash screen or icon before. The splash screen opens here in Wayland for me. The icon is gone so fast it doesn’t bother me. I have no problems running LibreOffice, but I typically only use the Writer. Not sure about the other apps. From my readings it seems like its just something you will have to wait for to get fixed by LibreOffice as its not fully Wayland compatible yet.
