Internet search is your friend.

By example this link : How to Install KDE Neon Distribution on Linux | Step-by-step Guide

i would have chosen kubuntu LTS for him (65yr man myself) but as long as you are ready to be his tech support when updates fail, then i guess it’s all good.

Welcome to the community my friend! I’m glad you were able to help your uncle upgrade to Linux!

I’m fairly sure KDE Neon is mostly a distro for KDE developers and is not super useful for the general public. However if you have any questions feel free to ask and we will be more than happy to support you!

As a 68y/o man who has tried almost every Linux distro on this planet, I would recommend Debian Stable KDE, and not to listen to anybody who recommends any other distro.

I also tried bazillion of distros last year and Debian KDE would be my choice too if it wasn’t for two issues:

  1. Plasma is quite old and there have been many fixes and improvements in the recent versions that I like but I’d have to wait a very long time to see them come to Debian.
  2. NVIDIA drivers are pain to install. I only succeeded once in the past on Debian 12. On Debian 13 I failed repeatedly so I gave up.

Debian is still my fav distro for servers but, unless I get an AMD GPU I won’t be able to use Debian as my desktop.

If neither of the two above issues matter to you then you can’t go wrong with Debian. Its stability is legendary ad unmatched by any other distro, but there is a price to pay for that: much older packages and you may come across desktop software that will simply refuse to work on Debian.
