This is the same issue I was seeing before I switched it to Windows Vista. You can even see in the picture he provided that the name under the icon has disappeared as well, just like I was seeing.

That should be fixed in the latest available versions.
I downloaded the latest stable version. You can now see the line that you are on, but on the category that you have selected the name disappears. Here you can see the name Ledgers is gone.
I know, and I don’t know how many times I have already mentioned that is a problem of a standard KDE widget called KPageView which KMyMoney uses. Not much we can do right now.
I can confirm that this is now fixed in later versions
