Luma LiftGainGamma

Does anyone know and understand the video effect: Luma LiftGainGamma?
This is used to change the tonal values of the video. The strange thing is that although it has a similar name to Lift/gamma/gain and also has three sliders with the same names: Lift, Gamma and Gain, it works completely differently.

With Luma, gamma does not change the brightness, but only the contrast.

Lift does not change the depths, but raises or lowers all tonal values evenly, so it should be called offset.

And the most mysterious is gain, which either softens the highlights or the shadows.

Which of you use this effect? And if so, what for?

Hmm, interesting. I agree with you that the effect would benefit from tool tips to explain what the sliders do.

According to the MLT documentation for LumaLiftGianGamma

Lift

adds a value computed using parameter value to color channel value,

Gain

multiplies color channel values by value computed using parameter value,

and Gamma

applies a gamma correction to all color channel values

I will also correct the online documentation for it. Thanks!
