Make better use of variants of mouse pointer theme

When drag-dropping an application from Kicker to a Plasma panel, it uses the copy variant of the current pointer theme instead of the dnd-link that some themes have (Breeze currently lack that one but has alias/link).

alias in Breeze:

When drag-dropping a file or folder in Dolphin while maintaining Ctrl+Shift (to create a link), it uses the copy pointer instead of the dnd-link (or link) one as well, the move and not-allowed pointers are used instead of respectfully dnd-move and dnd-no-drop (in Breeze they are the same, but in some cursor themes like Simp1e they are actually different!).

dnd-* cursors from Simp1e (Tokyo-Night-Storm variant):

When using kcolorchooser, the crosshair pointer is used, despite Breeze having specifically a color-picker pointer!

There are probably other instances I missed, but in short I feel cursor variants are underused in Plasma and I would like more variety to better reflect the on-going action, and to see a little bit more colors from my cursor theme.

Edit: if using pointers similar to what’s available to the web platform is important, at least using alias, in coherence with using copy, would be nice.

So there will always be issues with any unofficial themes, or themes designed with only ‘current’ items… and there are many duplicates (like ‘crossed-circle and crossed_circle’, or ‘crosshair’ vs ‘cross_reverse’ in my ‘drop-spark’ cursor theme).

You forgot the dnd-ask icon, which should be the current default action in Plasma unless a keyboard over-ride is used.

This topic was already covered partially in the discussion about dolphin’s default drag and drop behaviour and is the stated as beign the essential NEXT task in the path to deliver settings to choose different ‘default drag and drop’ options for Dolphin (with some folks requesting ‘default move in same domain’… this because currently the cursor indications are slightly unreliable.

You’re also quite right that the colour picker uses the ‘crosshair’ icon instead of the ‘color-picker’ icon - though that’s rather a non-issue I think, and I’d much prefer a colour picker to use a magnified bubble with a crosshair for precision targeting - for example, if you want to sample from a small font text).

So you’re saying the use of cursors may be revisited, at least for Dolphin?

Indeed, something like Firefox’s color picker would be much better than simply using another pointer.
