Meta + E shortcut doesn't open Dolphin, Meta + Shift + S does nothing instead of Launching Spectacle

Hi!

So I’ve started using my Steam Deck (system details below) in desktop mode quite a lot recently. Today I discovered that some of my shortcuts stopped working. I searched for a solution but couldn’t find anything that helped.

I’m very new to Linux, so I’m lost at what to try. Please help! If you can, explain your suggestions in more detail.

Example 1. Meta + Shift + S doesn’t do anything, while it should launch the Spectacle app!

  • The Meta button (Windows on my keyboard) works. Same for Shift and S.
  • Other shortcuts like Ctrl + C, Alt + Shift (set to switch keyboard Layouts), and Ctrl + / work.
  • The shortcuts menu lets me assign Meta + Shift + S to another action (it still does nothing).
  • Spectacle also responds just fine to Print shortcut (while ignoring Meta + Print).

But when I press Meta + Shift + S, nothing happens -_-

Example 2. Meta + E not opening Dolphin.

Same thing with Dolphin.

  • It works fine in general.
  • Default Meta + E doesn’t do anything.
  • A custom shortcut, such as Alt+F, doesn’t do anything either.

It seems it is a distribution issue, it lacks global shortcuts support or got broken.

Or maybe dolphin/spectacle are installed as flatpak and this creates problems.

Graphics Platform: X11

Or support in X11 for flatpak and mix of all the above.

KDE Plasma Version: 6.2.5

This Plasma version is not supported by the community anymore.
This also might be an old bug fixed since.

Thank you so much for your reply!

I had no idea I had to update the OS through the terminal…

I updated everything I could now, and the shortcut issue got fixed. :fireworks:

I can see I’m still not on the latest version of KDE Plasma. Is there any way to tell what’s the most relevant one for my system specifically?

Sorry if I’m asking stupid questions.

Just to be clear - I’ve been updating the Steam Deck through the Gaming Mode’s Settings until now and had to switch to a different branch in the terminal to get newer stuff. I don’t remember if the Main branch was available as an option in the UI or not.
