You can do it to windows, Why can’t you do it to desktops?
I just think it makes more sense.

its more intuitive to just click on the background to close the view (or hit ESC).
middle click is generally used for paste of the selection buffer (separate from the copy buffer).
I think in this case it makes sense to say that “middle click” is for closing things: OP experienced it for windows and is talking about a context where “pasting” wouldn’t mean anything, while “closing” is very much reasonable.
Also, it seems like they are talking of closing virtual desktops rather than exiting the Overview.
I think the proposal here is to be able to delet the hovered virtual desktop with a midleclick.
This behaviour makes sense imo as it’s allready a widely used behaviour for tabs widget and virtual desktops behaves like tabs at some poins.
apologies, i didn’t get the context of the “middle click”
in plasma 5, when i middle click on the desktop thumbnail at the top of the Overview screen it works just like closing a tab in a browser and just as if i had clicked on the trashcan icon to remove the virtual desktop from the lineup.
is this not how Overview works in your versions of plasma?
if not, it sounds like a regression and should be reported to bugs.kde.org.
Yes! That’s exactly what I meant! And also, yeah it doesn’t work.
But I don’t think it’s a bug. It doesn’t… feel like it is?
Is there a chance there’s some sort of settings I toggled? Or maybe you installed something that lets you do so?
I’m on fedora KDE plasma, Maybe it’s configured differently?
I dunno there’s alot of things that could be happening here.
it’s not configurable as far as i know and i’ve not done anything to enable such behavior… that’s just how it works (or did in plasma 5).
the most likely thing going on here is during the porting from plasma 5 to plasma 6, something got dropped/overlooked/miscommunicated/malformed.
this is what bug reports are for, so they can be corrected.
