Hi, I’m a Linux user since 15 years. I used Ubuntu Mate. I’m a power user and a gamer. I often help users on forum of Mate. I recently switch to Kubuntu. I really love KDE for its all modern features. First, I want to know very well KDE to help others then.
Sometimes people come along using their native language, and then you’re in a position to help if you understand their issues.
However, pay close attention to the plasma/KDE versions as you do, as there’s a lot of miscommunication as people often assume that everyone else already knows what they’re using.
Hey Ben! Welcome!
I love Mate and XFCE too, although I normally use Debian or Fedora. Hope you enjoy using KDE and feel free to come over and ask any questions you have. If you want to know more about KDE, you might want to check its website and documentation. I think there are a few nice videos too.
On a side note, do you speak any other languages besides English? It’s always helpful to have multilingual folks ![]()
Have fun! Cheers!
English is my native language, though I do speak some Thai I’m not too good at reading or writing…
But I think actually you were trying to reply to Philippe… who used Mate and is new to KDE (meaning Plasma) ![]()
Welcome Philippe !
Coming from Mate as a power user, you’ll feel right at home with Plasma. My advice: spend an evening digging through System Settings, and get familiar with KRunner (Alt+Space)
Haha there, FTFY.
krunner is awesome, you can find many settings directly there without going through the click-clicking… but obviously, you should make sure you open settings and click every tab, and study what’s on each page… there’s a LOT, and I’m sure nobody knows it all.
Also, use Dolphin with konsole - if you install zoxide, fzf etc… you can hit F4 to pop up a terminal inside Dolphin, change directory (mirrored in the GUI) or do whatever else you need to do.
Then appreciate the same thing works with KATE text editor, F4 pulls up the terminal.
Oh. You’re right. I’m so sorry!
