Seems kinda out of place, isn’t really a theme setting; should have it’s own page in the colors and themes settings section, or somewhere else fitting.
seems like accessibility would be more fitting, but nobody looks in there.
I could see it in display & monitors or maybe a long shot, power management. Maybe just putting it at the bottom of where its at now.
On the one hand, I was just thinking that it should be under Display & Monitor – ideally, it should be possible to set a different night light per monitor.
On the other hand, a friend just asked me if Plasma could change between light and dark theme with the night light. And while that isn’t yet implemented, I think it would be nice to have as an option.
Maybe one of these will help you
CC @ngraham who iirc advocated for this change (correct me if I’m wrong).
Display & Monitors was where it was previously, and it got moved to Appearance during the recent-ish large-scale reorganization of system settings. I also found it a little more fitting in the previous location.
This is planned, and was part of the reason why Night Light ended up where it is now, because changing color scheme and activating Night Light is somewhat related.
It’s one of those somewhat awkward pages that could logically fit in multiple places, but we have to stick it in just one.
The current location is indeed tailored towards being appropriate for the future work of integrating time-based color scheme switching, yeah. Conceivably, it could even be merged with the Colors page entirely at some point.
How about make it that we don’t have to? Seems not terribly hard to change.
That’s an interesting idea, maybe worth considering.
We actually do allow a KCM to appear in two categories, with the X-KDE-System-Settings-Parent-Category-V2
added a decade ago:
Although it was not intended for this usage, really.
Adding X-KDE-System-Settings-Parent-Category-Supplementary=cat1;cat2;cat3...
would be trivial.
