No LTS available by do-release-upgrade or is something wrong with my system

lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS
Release: 24.04
Codename: noble

But I did change my desktop from Mate to Kubuntu. All Mate packages, reminiscences deleted.

Is the LTS available (26.04) or is something wrong with my machine that it will be recognized as Ubuntu-Mate (no LTS for Mate ) ?

This is a distro-specific thing, unrelated to KDE, for sure.

Ubuntu has not yet flipped the switch for LTS upgrades as of yet. They do tend to hold off on doing this, to catch any late showstopper upgrade problems.

I suspect adding Kubuntu to Mate really hasn’t broken upgrades, as LTS upgrades have not been switched on yet, and Kubuntu is an LTS.

If there is an issue caused by adding Plasma to Mate, you’d probably be better asking on Ubuntu-mate’s forum if it is still running, or on Ubuntu’s Discourse.

I suspect you are OK here, especially if you installed Kubuntu using the kubuntu-desktop meta-package, which propbably has changed the identification used to determine upgrades.

@claydoh, thank you for the answer. Perhaps this year is the first time that it is so late.

I am not sure, but 2 years ago, the update was possible after 6 weeks or something like that after the release date of LTS 24.04.

26.04.1 which is the trigger for the upgrade has been released a few days ago, but the upgrade itself has been blocked for a bit more time because of a regression in rust-coreutils.

So yeah it’s a bit later than usual.

@stinb, thank you for the hint.
