No microphone in KdenLive but works in other apps

I have a Dell laptop running Linux Mint 22.2 with a built-in Microphone and an external Nexigo microphone. Both work well when I’m on conference calls via Zoom, WebEx or Teams.

I’m trying to edit a video and add an audio track that I need to record using KadenLive 23.08.5 but no audio devices are showing on KadenLive under the "Configure >>> Capture >>> Audio >>> Device tab.

I have installed PulseAudio Volume Control and it shows both microphones under Input Devices and Configuration tabs, however the recording tab is blank. Nothing shows under “Applications or All Streams”.

What is the problem here?

Hi, and welcome to the forum and community.

The version of Kdenlive you are using is over two years old, so I suggest to update to the latest version. I also recommend to use the appimage instead of your distro’s package because only the former is supported by us, the latter may have been created by the distro maintainers using outdated libraries.

i was not able to get kdenlive to work with any sort of live or streaming audio.

what i resorted to was adding in an audio file that had the audio i wanted, and then i was able to sync it up with the video i was trying to attach audio to.

i suggest you use some kind of recorder to make an audio file and then import that to your project.

Wow, what a clever solution. I like that. I’ll try to get the microphone working first, if that doesn’t work and I’ll watch the video while narrating the audio and then add it to kadenlive project. Thanks

Update, installed the latest appimage 25.08.2 and it worked flawless, it found my microphones.
