No shuting down normally since Plasma 6.1

So if I wanna shutdown my KDE neon/Plasma, it just shows blackscreen with cursor, with it not wanting to shut down. It has been like this since the update to Plasma 6.1 for me. Only solution for me is hardreseting my PC via longpressing the powerbutton

UPDATE: I have tested it for ten Minutes again, but still it doesnt wanna shutdown

How long have you waited before hard resetting?

If SystemD is awaiting the user session to close, it can take several minutes to timeout and force close the session, depending on your distro (longest I’ve seen was 4 minutes).

If it turns out to shut down after a while, check your system’s journal for any clue on what might be holding back the user session service.

I shut down the PC, then wenn brushing my Teeth. Then I wrote this Post for 3 mins with the photo. So by feeling it was 5minutes minimum. I will test it tomorow again for 10 minutes, then Update it

So I have testet it for 10 Minutes straight now, and it still wont shut down…

This isn’t a problem limited to 6.1, I experienced it running 6.0.5.

A workaround would be to log in a different pty and sun systemctl poweroff or systemctl reboot.

If you hit ctrl-alt-F1 (or F2, F3, F4) you should get to a different pty and be presented with a CLI asking for your username and password.

That is of course a band-aid solution. But at least it would make your system to power off properly and allow you to get complete journal/logs to further assess, or report, the reason.

Seems to work that way, thanks for the help! But I really do hope for a way for me being able to do it normally

When Linux systems won’t shut down this cmd usually works for me.

sudo shutdown -h now

I have the same problem, but it only started a few days ago, after a system update. After using the shutdown button and seeing the screen turn black, I walked away, assuming it would finish shutting down normally. About 15 or 20 minutes later I noticed that my screensaver had activated, even though Plasma had appeared to shut down. Reading other posts, I assume that Logout and Reboot will have the same issue, but have just been using the “shutdown” terminal command.
An issue that I think must be related (because it happened with the same update) is that System Settings are really messed up: if I select more than one or two setting categories, I start getting the error message “Error loading QML file.” e.g., I just started Settings, selected Mouse & Touchpad->Screen Edges, then back to the main list and selected Sound, and got the error. If I select Sound first after starting Settings, it works normally for a while, but after selecting other categories without making any changes, I start getting the dialog box asking if I want to Save or Discard my changes. Other weird behavior also, seems different every time I start Settings.
These issues happen on two different systems, a recent ASUS MB with Intel 14th-gen processor, and a 2-year-old Gigabyte MB with AMD processor, both running EndeavourOS Gemini and both updated about the same time.
I don’t know how to report bugs other than posting here, so hopefully this will do some good.

Now that you are saying that, eversince first installing KDE neon, I get an error everytime I open the Softwaremanager. It doesnt affect the Sytems functionality, but I still think it is worth mentioning.

Also I think the Fan control for GPUs is a bit f**ked up eversince friday. I could literally idle my PC, my GPU turns up to 65°C, then the Fans suddenly go up to 100% utilization to cool it down to 40°C, before they calm down again (dont know if it is an Nvidia exclusive problem tho)

Ok, so it turns out that my X11 was broken. I have tried the same with wayland and it worked fine. Guess I will use Wayland now

I have the same problem the latest weeks

Switching to Wayland is not an option yet for me, as i use tools that are not supported on wayland

This bug was fixed in Plasma 6.2.
