No way to set maximum lines in Compact View

I use Compact view instead of Icon view because I like the horizontal view of all the information: the icons are stacked vertically but all the file information sits on the right of the icon and I can scroll horizontally to view the rest of the files. I am also very zoomed in to see image previews more clearly.

With all this empty space above and below the filename, there doesn’t seem to be a way to display the filename across multiple lines. This exists for Icons view but not for Compact view. I specifically do not want to use a large “maximum width” or unlimited because the filenames can get very long.

Is there any way I can set the filename to appear across multiple lines?

You are talking about something unless the secondary lines and so on are indented to indicate they belong to the unindented line above them can get very confusing.

This is a solved problem. In Icon view, the filename appears in one colour and the properties appear in another colour.

when looking thru thunbnails, i generally use icon view zoomed up to see the thumbnails with 1 line file names and the width limited as well so the filenames don’t get in the way of viewing the thumbnails.

when looking thru file names, then i use compact with unlimited file name when i’m looking for a specific file name and need to see the whole thing, and the thumbnails are far less important.

details view is for everything else

There was no reason for your post to me. As I stated a solution to this could be to have and option added to truncate into multiple lines, but the additional lines be indented to indicate they belong to the unindent line above them.
