On my Acer laptop the numeric keypad is overlaid over the standard keyboard by using a function (Fn) key.
I bought a separate numeric keypad and the result is that the Num Lock key on the the separate numeric keypad switches also the Num Lock status on the main laptop keyboard, which is quite annoying. Apparently the input module cannot differentiate between both input devices.
I looked into system settings, but I did not find any options for this setup.
The numeric keypad is a 2.4GHz wireless connected to an USB dongle with the same id as the wireless mouse (both pop up in lsusb as the same device (MosArt Semiconductor Corp. Wireless Keyboard/Mouse with ID 062a:4101).
Does somebody have an idea, how I can use the keypad without influencing the main keyboard layout and vice versa? Any help is appreciated.
Sorrily there is no option for the FN key modifier in the BIOS of my travelmate spin B118.
I started experimenting with input-remapper (see on github: sezanzeb/input-remapper – I am not yet(?) allowed to post links) and it appears to me that I should be able to solve the problem with it.
it is possible to solve the problem with input-remapper by disabling NumLock on the separate numeric keyboard and remapping the KP-* keys to the corresponding numbers together with "Autoload"ing this mapping.
I encountered one aditional problem: My wireless mouse and this wireless numeric keypad use the same usb device ids (ID 062a:4101 MosArt Semiconductor Corp. Wireless Keyboard/Mouse) and they pop up as “MosArt Semiconductor Corp. Wireless Keyboard Mouse” and “MosArt Semiconductor Corp. Wireless Keyboard Mouse 2” in input-remapper setup. I had to experiment a bit before I got a workable config (without the wireless mouse). Then symlinking in ~/.config/input-remapper/presets the directories 'MOSART Semi. 2.4G Keyboard Mouse 2' -> 'MOSART Semi. 2.4G Keyboard Mouse' solved that problem.
