I don’t know if this would work for you since you have windows 11 pro, but i have installed KMyMoney version 5.2.1 on a Windows Edition Windows 11 Home, Version 24H2.
My motivation was to have a windows version which has the AqBanking plugin as well. If you don’t need this plugin, it doesn’t matter, KMymoney works anyhow .
I have documented my installation steps here if you like to try:
as I wanted to test it in dark mode to get closer to your case, i switched my Windows system setting into dark mode, but it had no impact on KMyMoney which stayed in light mode.
I guess the windows setting is not impacting KMyMoney because KMyMoney is installed as a portable version and not as the other windows softwares.
The KMyMoney settings don’t show any dark/light mode setting, so i cannot set it there to dark mode.
Is the dark mode critical to you?
I don’t need any banking downloads since retirement, our banking needs have become quite boring. I just use KMy as a convenience to track all our various accounts, so I didn’t look at the aq banking branch. I’ve been using msvc releases. The dark mode is a widows setting not a kmy setting. I find it much easier on my eyes. Some apps ignore it. I did notice a selection highlight in the categories window which is nearly imperceptible in dark mode, but categories did expand and collapse as normal in the latest master msvc I got 2 days ago. I found it is slow to fully load the window code, if I tried to expand either expense or income immediately after opening the window, it would not respond. Waiting a bit, and getting the pointer at the very beginning of the line, appeared to show a slight highlight and at that point the categories responded normally. Not sure why so slow. I got a respectably decent 10th gen i5. Two remaining glitches are the accounts window acting like the categories and inability to edit a split transaction copied from the recents until after entering it, it accepts the amount and date but the splits do not open to edit. Anyway, I forgot about the alternate aq releases and didn’t realize there was a portable version. I will try it.
Happened to see the 5059 msvc update prior to changing url location to download the portable version to try out. Happy to say all the bugs irritating me appear to be gone - categories and accounts both expand and collapse normally and even in dark mode I see the slight color change when selected. Big help. The Payee font glitch when trying to edit the name is gone and they now edit normally. I also increased my brightness a tad and now can see the split indicator next to the down arrow that opens the category selector. The split icon slightly crowds the down arrow which makes it look like a check mark but all functions normally so no biggie. Would be nice to have more control over the colors but all is good and I find it easier on the eyes, especially in a dimly lit room.
