Online Price Update not working (again) - yahoo and alphavantage - 2026-04-06

Both online price sources stopped working a few days ago.

As this is a permanently recurring failure for the last 20 years I added the date to help others searching the countless threads spread over all forums and to avoid them get into an old and non applicable conversation on the topic.

I had waited and tried several days before starting this thread, i.e. the failure is not temporary but permanent.

I have checked for updates of the update scripts (is this what they are called) for yahoo stocks and alphavantage from user Rhabaker, but they are unchanged and worked for a month. There are no newer / other update scripts.

Doesn’t seem to bother many ….

However, I switched back to yahoo finance (stock) and still not working, but other failure messages - see below.

Anyone has a description of these filters and how to configure the settings for the online rates update? And how to debug the interface from kmm to a data provider? Error messages, etc.?

All other finance tools I know have no issues at all with data provision, end-of-day rates would for my use case be good enough.

Is onvista.de not working as a data source? And how to configure that?

Well, you provided a lot of details which takes some time to digest and analyze.

Yes, because the other party of the communication (the service) changes things without notice. And since KMyMoney is based on voluntary work and not driven by a business it may take some time to react to these changes. Asking politely usually helps.

Looking at the details, I am under the impression that you blame the wrong party. I see that certain symbols receive updates and others not. Using the link you provided and a regular browser I see that AlphaVantage responded with data in one case and with an empty set in the other. So what do you expect the software to do? It tells you that it could not extract data for the symbol you requested.

Well, you provided a lot of details which takes some time to digest and analyze.

Expectation was that not only myself has the rate update issue buy many more and these would join the request / “me too”.

Looking at the details, I am under the impression that you blame the wrong party.

Where is the blame? Its a simple fact anyone googling will find out that there are permanant issue with the online rates, and therefore I added the date to the subject to help the next searching wave running into the same discussion 5 years old.

Using the link you provided and a regular browser I see that AlphaVantage responded with data in one case and with an empty set in the other. So what do you expect the software to do? It tells you that it could not extract data for the symbol you requested.

Good point, so I learned that I can take the webbrowser to see if its a usable site or empty. I never thought about that. But then … ?

which clearly means something is not working, but what that is it does not. What do you mean with “symbol you requested”? I have not found a description of setup for the stocks, and any possible differences for data providers, or how to debug.

Anyone has a description of these filters and how to configure the settings for the online rates update? And how to debug the interface from kmm to a data provider? Error messages, etc.?

Is onvista.de not working as a data source? And how to configure that?
