Opening a file the application type that open, remains minimized in Task Manager Kubuntu 25.04

I upgraded to Kubuntu 25.04 from 24.

Right clicking on .txt and choosing Kate will open Kate minimized in Task Manager. This also happens with other applications.

  1. Open Kate and minimize it.
  2. Open Dolphin and right click on .txt file.
  3. Select Kate.
  4. Kate opens up but remains minimized in Task Manager.

Try it again on different .txt files. Only happens if I right click and select Kate. Not if I double click.

Same happens with other applications, Not just with Dolphin or Kate E.g. opening up Chrome from . See video. Any ideas?

You can change the focus stealing prevention setting to a lower level.

Focus stealing prevention received a lot of changes recently, but Plasma 6.5 would be best, and kubuntu 25.04 is 6.3 ? I don’t know.

Ya, my system was already set to low.

So my current versions are as follows:

Operating System: Kubuntu 25.04
KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.12.0
Qt Version: 6.8.3
Kernel Version: 6.14.0-32-generic (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland

I’ll upgrade to 25.10 and see how it goes and report back. But thanks for the input!

So I did the upgrade and even changed the Focus steal to none as a test and still is the same problem.

Operating System: Kubuntu 25.10
KDE Plasma Version: 6.4.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.17.0
Qt Version: 6.9.2
Kernel Version: 6.17.0-6-generic (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
