An option to modify the default when a USB drive is inserted.
I tried unsuccessfully to find the code for doing this. I would be happy do the modification myself if possible.
If it is possible where do I have to look?

Look at udisks configuration.
Generally that’s distributions that set this path.

I know how to mount a disk manually and automatically. Perhaps I was not clean about that I was asking for.
When I plug a USB disk into the computer a popup comes up.
It has a few options.
Mount and Open (The default if I click on it.)
