When creating videos that involves lots of images, such as putting multiple layers of PNGs for a YouTube intro video or creating pretty much any kind of video with dozens of image tracks over it (such as crazy error style videos), Kdenlive gets really laggy when previewing even at 270p. I tried to set timeline preview to VAAPI for AMD since I have an AMD GPU but this one still gets really laggy.
Now that when I render it, the rendering time skyrockets to hours, if it does not crash. I noticed when a section on a project contains only images and not videos the GPU does not get used at all, even with VAAPI used in the export settings.
I’m not sure if this is a Kdenlive issue or mlt/movit issue. What are the ways I can do to improve timeline preview and rendering performance when using Kdenlive in this case?
My current system setup
- i3-10105
- 32GB of RAM
- AMD RX 5500XT
- Fedora 43 with KDE Plasma 6.6.1
- Kdenlive 25.12.2 downloaded from Flathub
