I recently upgraded to Plasma 6.5 and I’d like to use the built-in day/night theme switcher.
I’ve been looking for the day/night theme switch options, and it seems it only supports the official Breeze global themes in the System Settings home page.
I already have day and night color schemes (they’re based on the Breeze ones, but I customized them a bit), and I’d like to switch between those for day and night.
Is there a KCM with more options than Settings’s home page that’d allow me to do what I want or am I supposed to keep using the widget that has been doing this for me so far?
I think the existing ‘Day/Night’ idea is limited, similarly the whole ‘Dark/Light Mode’ concept is also limited.
I set up a couple of profiles which I save with Konsave, so that I can switch between my old standard ‘dim-grey’ comfort theme to my ‘light’ mode, which is creamy and not too bright (starting life with a Windows XP colour scheme for a contrast/brightness guide and tweaked).
Currently I’m in a ‘Pink Panther’ mode, with a bright pink cursor in Kitty terminal, a pink cursor on the desktop, and some slight purple hints here and there…
When I change these, my Konsole, Kate and Kitty profiles are also changed.
The drawback is that it’s not so easy to implement, as I have to run konsave, and then need also to restart (mostly Dolphin) to ensure it’s thoroughly applied.
Overall, the BEST solution would be that we can set it up, then ‘Save Global Theme’ and then have a general ‘Theme Switcher’ rather than just day/night or light/dark.
I’ve played around with the Day/Night switcher, and I’ve come to the conclusion that right now my best bet would be to create two global themes of my setup.
I tried poking lookandfeelexplorer around, I’ve managed to create a global theme, but it vanished and I lost about half an hour.
I also tried duplicating the default Breeze themes in my ~/.local/share/plasma/look-and-feel/ and modifying the content of those folders, but the directories I created never showed up in System Settings.
