Plasma 6 (Debian 13) – Global theme not applying correctly / no transparency on title bar (Utterly Nord Light)

Hello, I’m new to KDE Plasma and I’m trying to customize my desktop.

I’m using:

  • Debian 13 (fresh install)

  • KDE Plasma 6

  • Installed theme: Utterly Nord Light for Plasma 6 (from Discover)

The issue is that when I apply the global theme, it does not fully apply:

  • Some elements change, but others remain in the default Breeze style

  • The top bar / title bar is not transparent or styled as expected

What I want:

  • A white or slightly translucent (blurred) title bar

  • A consistent look across the system

What I’ve tried:

  • Applying the global theme multiple times

  • Looking for tutorials (but most are outdated and don’t match Plasma 6)

  • Checking settings, but I may be missing something

I read that some themes require enabling effects like Blur/Transparency, but I’m not sure if that’s enough or if something else is missing.

Is this a known issue with Plasma 6 themes or am I doing something wrong?

Any guidance would be appreciated :folded_hands:

Isn’t that an overall kwantum theme? In either case, the window decoration is probably an aurorae theme. Install it manually in ~/.local/share/aurorae/themes.

EDIT: I checked. It’s a kvantum theme with aurorae window decoration. So, the theme should be in ~/.config/Kvantum/. Provided you have kvantum installed of course. The application style needs to be set to kvantum. The theme has to be set in the kvantum manager and the window decoration to utterly.

Thanks, my friend—you’re right. Yesterday I did a bit more digging, and the description says the global theme only includes part of the configuration, and the rest has to be done manually. I’m new to this, so it feels a bit confusing, but it seems you have to download the .tar.gz files from the official site. There I saw instructions mentioning that part of it should be set up with Kvantum, and the other configurations go into different folders.

I’ve looked for videos, but they don’t really match this specific case. Maybe you could share a tutorial or some material that helps explain how to apply a theme manually?

Myeah…too bit of a “busy” right now. I’ll get you through it though. No worries.Hoy no
