Plasma Keyboard prevents direct typing in Google Sheets cells

Hi everyone,

I have been testing the latest version of KDE Plasma and noticed the new Plasma Keyboard feature, especially the diacritics popup when holding a key. It is a nice addition and works as expected in general typing scenarios.

However, I encountered an issue when using it with Google Sheets in a browser. When the virtual keyboard (Plasma Keyboard) is enabled, I am unable to type directly into a cell. The cell gets focus, but no input is registered from the keyboard. Once I disable the virtual keyboard, typing in Google Sheets works normally again.

This behavior seems specific to the interaction between Plasma Keyboard and web-based spreadsheet editors like Google Sheets.

Has anyone experienced the same issue? Is this a known limitation, or is there a workaround or configuration that can resolve it?

Environment details:

  • OS: Fedora Linux 44
  • Graphics Platform: Wayland
  • KDE Plasma version: 6.7.0
  • Browser: Google Chrome & Edge
  • Input method: Plasma Keyboard (virtual keyboard)

Thanks in advance for any insights.

Weird! Can you upgrade to Plasma 6.7.1 and try again?

If that doesn’t fix it, please open a bug report on https://bugs.kde.org. Thanks!

Also, see if Firefox has the same issue… both tested browsers are chromium based, it is likely that Google did some weird low level input things there

I’ll update this post again when Plasma 6.7.1 is available in my Fedora repo.

Nice, it works in Firefox. But I mostly use Chromium-based browsers as my daily browser.

The issue still persists after updating to Plasma 6.7.1 in Chromium-based browsers.

Pretty sure it’s fixed with 6.7.2 now!
